Loud and Clear for Kyra

York International Women's Week saw us performing at South Bank Social Club in aid of the city-centre-based Kyra Women's Project. Kyra is one of those rare and wonderful organizations that supports people not just for a ten-week project or a 'targeted intervention', but for as long as they need, in the way that they need, until they are ready to become a support to others themselves. In other words, it's a community.

It was a fab crowd for a Tuesday evening and we gave it what we had - from barbershop classics and love songs from the heart, to some serious theatrical camp.

Firmly in the latter category falls 'The Housewife's Lament' - a song whose words were found in the recipe book of poor old Sarah Price, an ordinary housewife during the American Civil War. While nations burned around her, Sarah's own battles were fought against spiders, mice and unending waves of dirt. Tassy gives this the seriousness it deserves.
