We wandered the Wolds and we sang...

It was Gemma's idea. You can't really go on tour in the dog days of a global pandemic - anything could happen. But you might be able to go to the Wolds - so near and yet far enough to be away - where there might be villages who might appreciate some live music after these dry quiet seasons.

So we chased up some contacts and indeed there were. We scheduled gigs in Millington and Kilnwick, both on the beautiful Wolds Way, because we know we like to walk and sing.

In both villages we met communities of people going to great lengths to keep local cultural life thriving and people connected.

Accommodation and rehearsal space was Millington Village Hall, which we could rent as a bunkbarn.

We performed for enthusiastic audiences at both villages, grateful in one case for the impressive marquee that sheltered both us and the audience from a tropical downpour.

And in between - the best reason to walk off the beaten track - we found beautiful rural churches to sing in. The thing you have to remember - as this 18th century graffiti on Londesborough church reminds us - is that Time Flies. You might never get to sing here again.
